About Durdle Door In Summer
This is an icon of the Dorset coastline. With many thousands of visitors each year, this natural rock formation sits into a small bay near Lulworth Cove.
I started this painting trying with several other styles, wanting to put my own take on the popular landmark. However, it after experimenting it resulted in me choosing for a more realistic style.
I began by marking out the features, making sure that the door (the rock hole) was the right shape and form. I then added the beach. Towards the end of the process I added the grassy mound with the flowers and butterfly.
This painting was done in two parts. The first time it was half painted and then put into storage. This was because I wasn't happy with the progress. After a while, I decided to have another go. I found that it worked much better the second time around and resulted in the painting you see today.
I believe that this painting is a bright and colourful representation of Durdle Door. I think adding the flowers and butterfly helped to create more interest and depth.
