The beach is a source of a lot of inspiration. This is from a photograph I took from a view point which looks down onto Bournemouth Pier and along the beach. Its a spectacular view as you can see for miles on a good day.
I thought that this would make a good painting as its a really great view. I wanted to create a painting that was slightly different and decided to go for a post impressionistic style.
I began with creating the structure and outline in the dark red paint. Then from there, I could put in the colours according to the majority colours of the photograph. This gives its feel. I like the curves of the natural landscape and wanted to echo that in the painting. I did this by keeping the lines and colours loose.
I finished the painting but wasn't completely happy (perhaps because it was too loose!). So, I put it away for a while and left it for a few months. After bringing the painting out again, I noticed the issues and resolved them.
The combination of an awesome view and exciting abstract style makes this painting stand out. I think its worked really well.
