I had a photo trip out to the local beach. It was winter and there were not many people around. The waves seemed cold and uninviting. The beach was a golden yellow, however there wasn't much going on.
I decided that it would be a good idea to create a painting which captured the essence of the beach but in a positive way. I wanted to bring a boost of expression and energy back to the dull winter beach scene.
Firstly, I did this by using a bright colour palette. I aimed to capture the range of colours reflected by the sea, sand and sky. Secondly, I wanted to show the movement in the sea, wind and environment.
Getting the correct feeling of place was important. The brush stokes become larger as they are nearer and smaller the further away things are to give the illusion of perspective.
This is actually the second attempt at this painting. The first captured the feeling, however the composition wasn't quite right. I reworked different areas, adding more interest, colour and highlights to create the energetic artwork you see today.
I'm really pleased with the result as it captures my aim of the painting. The bright feeling and positivity to an area of natural beauty.
