I visited Denmark and walked through the forests there. It was autumn and there was a large amount of deciduous trees. The colour, experience and feeling was something I wanted to put into a painting. At a similar time, I had also seen some other paintings featuring couples walking in the rain.
I thought it would be a great idea to put this these two elements into a memorable painting. The long avenues of trees and gravel walks give the painting a timeless feel.
I knew that the colours I'd experienced and the large amount of trees were important to include in the design. I began by creating the focal point of the couple in the distance. They were then surrounded by trees and forest under floor.
I found that the painting became very washed out and there was a lot going on. With so many colours, shapes and light changes, it became a mess or colour and shape. I had to reduce some areas to simplify shapes to make the painting more readable.
Its good that I've finished a painting capturing this idea. It is a memory for me as well as others who experience a similar occasion.
