About Old Harry View 3
We spent a day visiting the famed Old Harry Rocks. Its quite a journey. The rocks are situated on the tip of a chalk coastline near to Swanage, Dorset. One must drive to the local village and then walk 30 mins from there across countryside to reach the cliff faces. Once there you realise the sheer scale of the cliffs, this makes them to many, an awe inspiring experience.
I wanted to capture this place in my own style. Focusing on the cliff face, I used a bright colour palette.
I felt that it would look good as a mixture between expressionism and post impressionism. I've used large loose brush strokes in some areas and completed more detail in others using the colours to add an expressionist side.
I actually repainted the sky several times until I was happy with it. I found that the previous attempts of colouring and stylising made it look either too dark or clashed with the rest of the painting.
I've managed to capture this iconic cliff face and area. I believe its a refreshing take on the popular location.
