The process of waiting can be long, boring and tiring. A journey in itself. Anticipation and stress could also be involved. I thought this could be a good idea for a painting, to try and visualise this feeling onto a canvas.
I thought this and future paintings could be good to explore, looking into contradictions, emotion and to help people visualise these feeling who look at the painting.
Inspired by colour field art movement, but also taking a minimalist approach, I wanted to translate the feeling or pressure or anxiety and reduce these into shapes and colours.
This is a clash of colours with 3 major bands. The deep red represents the solid mass (a persons body). The deep red to me expresses the insecurity or an on edge feeling. The yellow spiked area represents the “skin” or emotional being of the mind, acting as the barrier to the body or red area. The blue presses against the yellow band creating the spikes and the uncomfortable feeling.
The blue area represents the outside world. I've kept it blue as anxiety is a belief of the mind, not in reality. So, with the colour blue, I am stating that actually nothing is happening as the restriction or discomfort is in the mind.
Many people have experienced the anticipation of waiting and I think this painting is a good representation of this idea. There is a lot more to discover with this.
